Sign up for classes! Health habits can be hard to change and tough to maintain. But often the hardest part is getting started! MVP health education programs and support services can help you get started and keep you on the road to taking charge of your health.

This presentation will discuss the experiences of a WWII fighter pilot and tactical reconnaissance pilot. Major Elmer Pankratz flew 43 combat missions in Europe and will take you through his training and on some missions. He will discuss his love of flying, particularly his "aluminum sweetheart," the P-51 Mustang.

This class will provide an educational seminar explaining the estate and long term care planning process. This program focuses on the grieving process for the person experiencing the loss or for those who are trying to help someone else deal with a loss. Grieving can be for a loved one, a pet, the past, your health or for a lost object. Preventing Falls One Step at a Time

This program is being presented in partnership with ABVI-Goodwill. As we age, our risk for falling increases dramatically due to health-related concerns and that can impact our ability to live independently. This class discusses many factors that can contribute to falls and will give you strategies you can begin to use today to overcome them. Information will be available regarding vision loss and services available through the Vision Rehabilitation Department of ABVI-Goodwill.

Issues of Memory and Aging

Presented by William Hall, M.D. and Mark Mapstone, Ph.D. Drs. Hall and Mapstone will provide information about memory and aging, as well as information about an on-going, community-based research study focused on creating a blood test for early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. After the presentation, the audience will have specific information about what are “normal” changes to memory as a person ages and what changes are cause for concern. People will have an opportunity to hear about an important research study being conducted in Rochester and have an opportunity to sign up to participate.

What you eat can (and does!) affect your chances of developing high blood pressure and sodium is the leading culprit. AARP Driver Safety Program

AARP has developed an eight-hour classroom refresher to help drivers age 50 and older to improve their skills and prevent accidents. The class covers physical changes that occur in vision, hearing, and reaction time as we age, and provides useful driving safety tips for handling these changes. Fee for the course is $12 (check or money order) for AARP members and $14 for non-AARP members. Contact your insurance agent to see if you are eligible for an insurance discount. Reduce your New York Auto insurance premiums by approximately 10% and take up to 4 Points off your NY driving record after completion of this Safe Driver NY program. Peg Barto, owner of Safe Driver NY, has been teaching defensive driving courses for over 22 years. She will review accident prevention, traffic laws and regulations, and discuss how to handle unusual situations such as aggressive drivers or road rage. Contra dancing began in the late 17th century as French country dances, and later became popular in New England. Ta’i Chi for Arthritis/Coiling Silk Qi Gong

For centuries, the Chinese have used Ta’i Chi and Qi Gong as effective treatments for arthritis. Coiling Silk Qi Gong is good preparation for Ta’i Chi and will be taught as a lead-in.  The 12-movement Ta’i Chi form is a gentle, relaxing exercise program that is simple to follow and easy to learn.
