"Were pleased to secure the additional space we need downtown and to help kick off the renovation of Center City," said David W.Oliker, president and CEO of MVP Health Care. "Being located downtown has worked out great for MVP, and were looking forward to having a front row seat to the continued revival taking place around us," he said.
MVP Health Care combined its Schenectady operations in a newly constructed, 175,000 square foot office building at the corner of State St. and Nott Terrace in 2002. At the time MVP employed 850 people at the new building. MVP employment downtown has grown to more than 1,000 since its merger with Rochester-based Preferred Care in 2006. Approximately 200 employees will move from 625 State St. to Center City when the second and third floors of the building have been renovated.
"This gives us adequate space for our workforce and provides us with room for future growth," Oliker said.
The Company recently announced plans to expand into Erie and Niagara counties to serve the Buffalo area.
The Galesi Group recently purchased Center City. The 180,000 square foot complex is located directly across from Proctors in the heart of Schenectadys arts, entertainment and technology district. The Galesi Group plans to turn the complex into a mixed-use office, fitness and retail center.
MVP will take occupancy following the completion of renovation work starting in late 2008.
Dave Buicko, COO of the Galesi Group said, "The Galesi Group has a long-standing relationship with MVP and we are pleased to use this project to illustrate once again the strong commitment both companies have to Schenectady County."
Susan E. Savage, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature said, "MVP Health Care helped to start the revitalization of Schenectady County by placing it headquarters here. Now the company will continue its outstanding commitment to our community by expanding into the Center City complex. As MVP celebrates its 25th anniversary, we are so very grateful for the many ways that the company enhances our community and the entire Capital Region each year."
Schenectady mayor Brian Stratton said, "MVP is one of the Citys greatest employers and partners. In addition to the more than 1000 good jobs MVP has brought to downtown, the company and its employees support many worthwhile projects in the City, including their ongoing support and restoration of Vale Park."
Ray Gillen, Metroplex Chair said, "Just as MVP helped to jump start Schenectadys renewal efforts, this new lease will help launch the revitalization of Center City bringing more people into the heart of downtown every day. This project will also help us generate additional revenue for our parking system that is a real asset to our fast-growing downtown."
