Schenectady, N.Y., January 28, 2019—MVP Health Care has been named a 2019 Best Company to Work for in New York for the second consecutive year by New York State SHRM, the Society for Human Resources Managers and Best Companies Group.
The statewide survey and awards program were designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in New York, benefiting the state’s economy, its workforce, and businesses. This year, the list includes 75 companies from across the state.
Eligible organizations participated in an evaluation of their workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25 percent of the overall evaluation. The second portion involved an employee survey that measured the employee experience and was worth approximately 75 percent of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final rankings. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process and also analyzed the data to determine the final rankings.
Some of the areas evaluated relate to leadership and planning, corporate culture and communications, role satisfaction, work environment, relationships with supervisors, training and development, pay and benefits, and overall engagement.
“Our culture is an asset that helps us attract and retain quality talent, and every aspect of our culture is based on the belief that MVP’s success begins and ends with our employees,” said Denise Gonick, chief executive officer of MVP Health Care. MVP employees have frequent opportunities to give their feedback via satisfaction surveys, listening sessions, and participation on dedicated teams that source and respond to employee feedback. These concerted efforts have led to a responsive culture that continues to grow with time.
“Our employee base is diverse, and we are proud to foster a workplace culture that is deeply committed to inclusion,” said Lynn Manning, senior leader of people and talent. “Our focus on creating a sense of belonging extends to the programs and services we offer to employees.” MVP offers performance incentives, special Core Contributor award bonuses to employees who are nominated for going above and beyond, and “on the spot” awards for a job well done.
“We also have an award-winning employee well-being program that’s predominantly run by and completely designed around its employees, with everything from fitness classes, to fresh produce deliveries from local farms, to workshops on mindfulness and managing personal finances” said Manning. “We embrace the idea of identifying and meeting our employees’ unique needs to help them feel connected to our organization. When our diverse employee base brings their full range of talents to work, our business thrives.”
All MVP employees also receive a paid day off each year during which they can form their own volunteer teams to help in the community on company time. Employees also participate in walks, runs, and bike rides that benefit a wide variety of not-for-profit organizations. MVP supports nearly 400 organizations and volunteers more than 4,600 hours in the communities it serves.
“Community service makes us a better, stronger company,” said Manning. “Giving back to the communities where we live, work, and play means getting out there and pitching in, which our employees are happy to do. Volunteering is part of MVP’s mission to build healthier communities.”
