Schenectady, NY – May 8, 2020 – MVP Health Care today announced the launch of its Baby Care Kit program, just in time for Mother’s Day. This initiative is designed to help parents navigate health for this new phase of life. The kits, which are mailed to all of MVP Health Care’s Medicaid members following the birth of a baby, includes a thermometer, “Goodnight Moon” book in English or Spanish, a blanket, a bib, a onesie, a teething ring, and educational health information for parents.
“It takes a village to raise a baby, and that doesn’t stop in the face of our current public health crisis,” said MVP Health Care’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Del Vecchio. “At MVP Health Care, we are committed to supporting the health and well-being of each of our members. We’re pleased to offer the Baby Care Kit program in an effort to increase access to postnatal care for parents, and hope that the boxes bring the parents joy.”
A recent study shows that 40 percent of new moms feel depressed, anxious, and overwhelmed in the weeks following their baby’s delivery. While the Baby Care Kit has items for newborns, it is also intended to provide parents with health educational information. The kit includes helpful details about MVP programs available to parents, scheduling mom’s postpartum visit, postpartum depression, well-child visits, vaccine schedules, health and development screenings, and more.
“By supporting whole-person care from day one, MVP Health Care aims to close gaps in care for the Medicaid population through early intervention,” said MVP Health Care’s Senior Leader of Regional Medical Directors, Dr. Kimberly Kilby. “Parents are often overwhelmed with navigating how to care for an infant, new financial burdens, and maintaining their own health. We are excited to offer Baby Care Kits to provide support for parents and their new ‘MVPs’.”
The kits are shipped out to families once a month and will continue to be sent to parents of newborns all year long. To date, MVP has shipped more than 1400 Baby Care Kits.
MVP Health Care Medicaid members who have, or will have, a baby in 2020 may qualify to receive a Baby Care Kit.
