MVP Health Care Offers Only 5-Star Rated Dual Special Needs Plan In New York State

Unique Joint Medicare and Medicaid Health Plan Offers Underserved Populations Exceptional Health Care to Meet Their Unique Needs

Schenectady, NY – October 27, 2022 – MVP Health Care is proud to announce that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has awarded its Dual Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) the only 5-star ranking in New York State. MVP’s D-SNP was given this top-tier designation by CMS based on factors such as customer service, quality of care, access to health care services, data from in-network doctors and hospitals, and more.

A Dual Special Needs Plan is a type of Medicare Advantage plan that focuses on intensive care coordination and is designed for individuals with special needs who uniquely qualify for Medicare and Medicaid. MVP’s D-SNP breaks down the traditional silos of care by empowering care managers to be in constant contact with members and their health care providers, ultimately allowing for a more coordinated approach to addressing a member’s physical, behavioral, and social health needs. Providing this level of coordination ultimately leads to better care, better outcomes, and lower costs for a population that often includes high utilizers of the health care system.

“Our D-SNP 5-star ranking reinforces MVP’s commitment to whole person care by offering plans and products that are supported by great customer service, great benefits, and low costs,” said MVP Health Care President and CEO, Chris Del Vecchio. “When offering D-SNP, we knew that we had to offer care in the context of a person’s life and account for the challenges they face beyond their clinical diagnoses. Our D-SNP allows us to see this population’s unique needs and coordinate their health and social care in a hyper-focused, meaningful way.”

In addition to an intense level of care coordination, MVP’s D-SNP offers exclusive benefits that aim to assist with customers’ underserved needs such as:

  • Transportation to medical appointments
  • $50 a month grocery allowance
  • Free meal delivery to assist with nutritional support during at-home recovery
  • Free aids like a non-slip bathmat and elastic shoelaces for those recovering from a joint replacement
  • Over-the-counter medicine allowance
  • Preventative and comprehensive dental support
  • 24/7 access to virtual care
  • Free SilverSneakers gym membership

“Our D-SNP care model allows MVP to coordinate treatment for our high-need customers in a deliberate way that is often missing from the health care system,” said MVP Health Care’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Carl Cameron, MD. “Each of our D-SNP customers is assigned to a MVP Care Team which consists of a nurse, a social worker, and a pharmacist, who will assist them in navigating clinical care—like making doctor’s appointments and understanding their benefits—as well as social services—such as housing, transportation, and nutrition. These specialized services are what sets our D-SNP apart and why CMS recognized MVP with a 5-star ranking. We are proud to offer this specialized plan in a customer-centric way to this underserved population.”

MVP’s D-SNP is available throughout counties in the Capital Region, Mid-Hudson Valley, and Rochester regions, including: Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Monroe, Orange, Putnam, Rensselaer, Rockland, Saratoga, Schenectady, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester.
