Statement from MVP Health Care’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Del Vecchio
Schenectady, NY — June 3, 2020 — “As the leader of a company dedicated to the health and well-being of our communities, I am profoundly saddened by the pain, frustration, and suffering being experienced across our nation, and right here at home, due to the awful act of racial injustice that took place in Minneapolis.
I cannot adequately speak to the distress that must be thundering through the African American community at this time. Racism and long-standing social inequities continue to take an immense toll on the physical and emotional health of our country. Tragedies such as this shake us all to the core, confirming again the ever-present reality that we still have so much work to do to address society’s failure to guarantee equal rights to everyone. Outrage is understandable and justified, and protest as a way of being heard, is our right.
I am committed to examining our Community Engagement efforts to be certain that we are finding ways to address the social shortfalls and local inequities that plague our communities with respect to education, food, housing, and health care. We have made some strides in the past, and we can continue to make an impact in our communities in the future by doing our part to address the root causes of injustice. Once and for all, we need to put an end to generational poverty and provide equitable solutions for meeting society’s most pressing and basic needs.
I remain optimistic about the goodness inherent in humankind. I witness it daily among my colleagues and our partners who care deeply about our members and who demonstrate many acts of local kindness and giving every day. Let us commit to be a part of that story and doing the right thing with every small act.”
