Questions About Your Medicaid Coverage

  • What is changing?

H.R.1 (also called “One Big Beautiful Bill”) is a federal law that makes major changes to Medicaid coverage, including:

    • Changes to “qualified” immigrants eligible for Medicaid and Child Health Plus beginning October 1, 2026
    • Changes to retroactive Medicaid coverage beginning January 1, 2027
    • “Implementation of Work Requirements for Medicaid Coverage” for certain individuals beginning January 1, 2027
    • Implementation of Medicaid renewal every six months instead of annually for certain individuals beginning January 1, 2027

MVP is monitoring these updates closely. We will provide information and resources to help our members understand what these changes may mean for their coverage.

Please refer to these NY State of Health resources for more information:

  • Who is impacted?

Starting October 1, 2026, some immigrants who previously qualified for Medicaid may no longer qualify. Other options may be available.

    • If you are an immigrant, NY State of Health will send you additional information if you no longer qualify for Medicaid. MVP can help you determine other plan options.

Starting in 2027, certain adults with Medicaid will need to submit work requirement certifications and renew their coverage every six months instead of once a year.

    • If this applies to you, NY State of Health will try to renew your coverage automatically when possible and will contact you if more information is needed. MVP will also send reminders as your Medicaid renewal deadlines approach.
  • Do I need to do anything right now?

The most important thing you can do right now is to make sure your contact information is up to date. This helps make sure you receive important notices and updates about your coverage.

You should also watch for communications from NY State of Health regarding your Medicaid coverage.

  • How will I know if I need to take action?

If you need to take action, you will receive information from NY State of Health explaining what to do next.

Be sure to read any letters, emails, text messages, or other notices about your Medicaid coverage.
