At the start of your visit, you will share your symptoms with the provider. The provider will have specific questions for you, too. Based on your answers, the provider may guide you through performing parts of a physical exam that may give them additional information about your situation, such as how fast your heart is beating, or how your breathing is. If you have simple medical equipment at home, like a thermometer, blood pressure cuff, or scale, they may ask you to use these as well (they are not required for an appointment, but it may help if you have them).
Depending on your symptoms, your provider may ask that you switch to a video call, so they can see any physical signs you may have (such as redness or swelling of your eyes or throat, or rashes on your skin). This can help your provider make a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Based on the conversation and video call, the provider may be able to give you a diagnosis and start you on a treatment plan. The provider may also recommend that you are seen in-person, and can refer you to a doctor, urgent care, or emergency room in your area.
