Patients who are hesitant about mammograms may benefit from a clear, approachable class that helps reduce fear, addresses common misconceptions, and reinforces the importance of early detection. Presented by Know Your Lemons, an internationally recognized breast health organization, this virtual class uses memorable, visual education to make breast cancer awareness easier to understand. The program is open to MVP Members and non-Members and may be especially helpful for patients who are unsure where to find trustworthy breast-healthy health information.
Patients may delay or avoid mammograms because of misinformation they have heard from friends, family, or social media. Providers can help by acknowledging these concerns and guiding patients toward accurate, evidence-based information.
Response: Mammograms use low-dose X-rays, and the benefit of finding breast cancer early generally outweighs the small radiation risk for eligible patients.
Response: Mammograms can be uncomfortable, but the compression lasts only a short time and helps capture clearer images.
Response: Breast self-awareness is helpful, but mammograms can find changes before a lump can be felt.
Response: Some online sources promote unproven alternatives, but mammography remains the recommended screening tool for early detection.
Please consider mentioning this class to patients who are due for breast cancer screening, have expressed fear or uncertainty about mammograms, or may be relying on information from social media. A brief recommendation from a trusted Provider can help patients feel more informed and empowered to take the next step in their breast health.
