In mid to late September, you will receive a notice in the mail outlining changes to your health plan that will take effect January 1.
During the Annual Enrollment Period, which runs October 1 through December 7, you can decide to keep your current coverage or enroll in a new plan.
If you’re happy with your plan and the changes outlined in the Annual Notice, there’s nothing you need to do. You will automatically be enrolled for the next plan year.
If you receive a notice saying that your plan is ending, you will need to enroll in a new plan. A plan termination also qualifies you for a Special Enrollment Period, which runs October 1 through December 31. Review your plan options, and be sure to enroll in a new plan before January 1 to avoid financial penalties.
