Contraceptive Services

MVP Health Care ® (MVP) is committed to women’s reproductive health equity and ensuring access to preventive care. The federal Affordable Care Act (ACA) and 8 V.S.A. § 4099c ensure broad no-cost access to contraceptive drugs and services for MVP Vermont members.

MVP VT and MVP VT Plus plan members, covered spouses, and covered dependents have access to coverage at no cost-share of outpatient contraceptive services including sterilization, as well as prescription drugs and devices that are approved by the FDA.

Contraceptive coverage also includes the following at no-cost share under these plans, except on qualified high-deductible health plans:

  • Patient education and counseling
  • Any service, drug, device, or other product deemed medically necessary by a provider
  • A 12-month supply of a prescribed contraceptive supplied as directed by a provider, either all at once or over the course of 12 months
  • Any clinical services related to providing contraception, including sterilization, other procedures, follow-up visits, side-effect management, counseling, and device insertion and removal.

Search Contraceptives in Your Plan's Formulary

You can find an alphabetical list of covered contraceptive drugs, including the cost tier, in your plan’s formulary. Visit the Prescription Benefits page and scroll to Vermont Plans to find your formulary. On your keyboard, press CTRL and F to bring up a search window and type contraceptive.
